Hello Again,
As I promised earlier, this is the first Firefox plugin and extension reviews that I will be putting up here at Tech-Bitz.
The ColorfulTabs plugin/extension for the Mozilla Firefox Browser is a very well designed and stable plugin. It is currently in version 2.0.10 and I have been using it for several months now with no problem whatsoever on Firefox version 2.
Because this program runs directly in the Firefox Browser itself it is not platform dependent. It can run on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.
I first downloaded and installed this plugin when I found that I was having a hard time distiguishing between the 10-15 open tabs that I always seem to have open at any one time. The ColorfulTabs plugin really helped me to find and keep track of my favorite websites. It also really helps to dress up and make the plain Firefox toolbar a little bit nicer to look at.
The colors are totally customizable and you can choose to have a rainbow effect or to make all your tabs different hues of the same color. I personally like the rainbow effect because it helps me to find the different tabs that much faster.
If you have a theme or skin on your firefox broswer however, you may find it more attractive to make all of your tabs the same color, with different shading/hues in order to complement your skins color schemes.
The ColorfulTabs Firefox plugin is so full of options that it would be difficult to list the rest of them here, but here are some of the most important/useful ones.
Easy to Change/Update configuration - Simply right click on any open tab and then select ColorfulTabs-Option menu to select/change your personal preferences.
Domain Specific option - Always make certain website domains appear certain colors. You could for example make Tech-Bitz.com always appear on your browser with a blue colored tab, or MyBlogLog.com appear as green.
Active Tab Dominance - You can make the inactive tabs on your Firefox browser fade/dim in order to make the active tab stand out more, this is really handy when you have 15-20 tabs open and are trying to remember which one you have open.
Ease of Use - This plugin is truly ease to use, immediately after install and browser restart the plugin automatically takes you to the ColorfulTabs Quick Start Guide where it explains step by step how to configure your brower tabs to you desires.
Ease of Visibility - Anyone with visual problems would definitely benefit from this Firefox plugin due to the ease of distinguishing which tabs are which.
In conclusion: While ColorfulTabs is not a plugin that will change your life, I would says that my web surfing is much more enjoyable with it and I miss my ColorfulTabs whenever I’m forced to use a computer that doesn’t have it installed.
I’ve installed this Firefox plugin on my parents computer and everyone else’s computer that I work on and I have yet to hear a bad thing about it. Everyone pretty much says ‘this is a really cool plugin’ after they have it installed for a few days and have had a chance to experiment with the different color settins and preferences. I hope you will say the same.
If you have a favorite firefox plugin or add-on that you would like reviewed or if you would like to know more about a particular extension before installing it yourself, just let me know in the comments section below.
Until next time,
Safe Surfing
